Bengaluru: Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai on Sunday December 11 emphasised the need for specialised training for mid-level police officers along the lines of the National Defense Academy (NDA). He urged senior officers to take responsibility for preventing corruption and irregularities in police recruitment.
Speaking at the investiture ceremony for awarding police officers with the President’s Police Medal at Raj Bhavan, Bommai stressed the need for the best training for IPS officers and lower-rank staff. “Mid-level officers must receive the best training before being promoted. Refresher courses must be held, and they must be trained to investigate any case effectively,” he said, adding that training should be of the highest calibre, like in the NDA.
“Irregularities in the hiring of police personnel must not be tolerated, and senior officers must make sure that the hiring procedure is fair. You can amend the rules and use any technology, but there shouldn’t be room for irregularities in the hiring process,” he said.
He further said that to conduct better investigations, the number of forensic science laboratories should be raised, and each region has to have at least two labs. “Cybercrime should be tackled in a method that allows for quick detection of crimes as soon as they are committed. The government is prepared to offer all help needed in this regard, including staff training and special training. The next budget will include grants for this,” said Bommai.
Governor Thaawarchand Gehlot, Home Minister Araga Jnanendra, Additional Chief Secretary (Home) Rajneesh Goel, DG & IGP Praveen Sood and others were present.
