The 51st Additional City Civil and Sessions Court in Bengaluru has convicted two individuals for the murder of 22-year-old Chandru V, which took place in April 2022. The accused, Shahid Pasha alias ‘Narrow’ and Shahid Pasha alias ‘Gena,’ were sentenced to 13 years of simple imprisonment and fined Rs 20,000 each.

The murder occurred when Chandru, who was celebrating his birthday with his friend Simon Raj, was attacked after a motorcycle driven by the accused collided with their scooter in Halegudadahalli. Following a heated argument, the victims were assaulted with a machete. Raj managed to escape, but Chandru sustained fatal injuries and died in the hospital. CCTV footage captured the horrific incident.

Initially investigated by local police, the case was transferred to the CID, which, led by DySP Nandakumar, gathered testimony from 30 witnesses and filed a chargesheet in June 2022. The investigation confirmed that the murder was not related to a dispute over the Urdu language, despite claims made by former Home Minister Araga Jnanendra, which led to a public uproar.

The accused were convicted under IPC Sections 304 (culpable homicide not amounting to murder), 506 (criminal intimidation), and Section 27(1) of the Arms Act.
