Laziness has sparked some of humanity’s most ingenious inventions, from remote controls to the internet. A Bengaluru-based product designer channeled this spirit of innovation while installing a new water purifier in her apartment, leading to a creative solution that has garnered widespread praise online.
Ashita, the designer in question, shared her solution to the common issue of draining water from her new purifier. She had to empty the first batch of water, but rather than waiting around, she devised a clever way to make the process hands-off. In a post on X, Ashita revealed her setup: the water purifier dispenses clean water into a large plastic bottle, which has been modified to direct any overflow into a smaller bottle, which then funnels the excess water directly into the sink.
The inventive solution immediately caught attention on social media, with many impressed by her problem-solving skills. One user commented, “This should be part of the resume as problem-solving skills, time, and process optimization.” Another user joked, “AI can’t replace you; it’ll try to achieve the physical form, but still can’t match your ingenuity.”
While some users offered suggestions for improvements, such as creating a simpler path using polythene or repurposing the water for other household tasks like mopping or watering plants, the majority praised Ashita for her resourcefulness and dubbed her a “jugaadu designer.”
