BENGALURU: In response to global concerns about the ‘mpox‘ (monkeypox) outbreak, the Karnataka government has announced the creation of a 50-bed isolation ward at Victoria Hospital’s ‘H’ block under the BMCRI to manage and contain potential cases of the virus.
Key Details:
- Isolation Ward: The new isolation facility will provide dedicated beds to manage suspected mpox cases and prevent the virus’s spread. This measure is particularly important given the high volume of international visitors to Bengaluru.
- Free Testing: In addition to the isolation ward, free testing of samples will be available to ensure early detection and prompt response to any cases.
- Official Statement: Medical Education Minister Dr. Sharan Prakash Patil reassured the public, stating that while there is no immediate cause for alarm, the state is taking proactive steps. “We are implementing necessary measures to contain any possible spread of mpox,” he said.
- Guidelines and Screening: The Centre has issued guidelines for managing mpox, and the state will align its procedures with these guidelines. The health department will implement any additional measures, including potential passenger screenings at airports, based on the Centre’s directives.
The establishment of this isolation ward and testing facilities reflects the state’s commitment to public health and preparedness in the face of emerging health threats.
