A Bengaluru couple was left stunned after an eye specialist allegedly linked their vision issues to getting married and having children. Sharing their experience on Reddit, the husband called the comments “unscientific,” “deeply unprofessional,” and “completely out of line.”
According to the post, what was supposed to be a simple eye examination turned uncomfortable. The doctor began by asking both of them about their backgrounds before warning the man about his cylindrical power of -2.5 and astigmatism. He claimed that extended screen time—around 10 hours daily for the IT professional—could lead to severe complications and insisted he would be unable to continue working in the same field, which the man described as “fear-mongering.”
The situation escalated when the doctor called the man back during his wife’s appointment. “Didn’t you consult anyone before marrying? Two people with myopia shouldn’t wed. Your children will have early vision problems,” the doctor allegedly stated, also advising them to seek guidance before conceiving.
The man expressed outrage, saying no medical professional should shame people over common, treatable conditions like myopia or astigmatism.
The story quickly went viral, sparking strong reactions. An ophthalmologist on social media labeled the claims as completely false and encouraged the couple to file a complaint. Others criticized the doctor’s behavior, calling it inappropriate and intrusive.
