Bengaluru: Home Minister Araga Jnanedra warned on Friday January 21 that prison staff who engage or help in illegal activities in prisons throughout the State will face strict disciplinary actions.

Speaking to mediapersons, he said that there have been recent reports of some illegal activities in the prison at Ramanagara, Tumakuru, Kalaburagi and Belagavi. He said that a thorough investigation into these violations has been ordered.

He added that directions have been given to take legal action against the erring staff who allowed mobile phones to reach prisoners.

The District Police officers raided the Hassan District Jail and confiscated the illegally kept mobile sets from inmates.

A case has been filed against an inmate at the Belagavi Central Jail for making threatening calls to Union Minister Nitin Gadkari’s office, he added.

He further said that state-of-the-art mobile jammers are being installed to prevent the illegal use of mobile phones by inmates at prisons in the State.
