The Bengaluru Water Supply and Sewerage Board (BWSSB) has announced a 24-hour disruption in the Cauvery water supply across all BBMP zones on June 19, owing to urgent maintenance and infrastructure enhancements.
In a statement released Monday, BWSSB clarified that water treatment facilities under Cauvery Water Supply Project Phases 1 to 5 will be completely shut down from 6 am on Wednesday, June 19, to 6 am on Thursday, June 20.
The shutdown is essential to integrate a new 3,000-mm pipeline with the existing Cauvery Stage V system at T K Village, alongside scheduled power facility upkeep coordinated with Karnataka Electricity Transmission Corporation.
Officials explained that the move is vital to ensure long-term, uninterrupted water distribution and timely execution of upgrades. The shutdown will impact households, businesses, and industries throughout Bengaluru’s urban limits.
Residents have been urged to store water in advance and use it sparingly during the affected period. Authorities assure that they are working to complete the upgrades swiftly and resume supply by the stated deadline.
The city currently grapples with a daily shortfall of 400 MLD, as BWSSB provides 900 MLD against a demand of 1,300 MLD. The newly launched Cauvery Stage V aims to bridge this gap, targeting 50 lakh beneficiaries across 110 peripheral villages, adding 775 MLD to the city’s capacity.
Key areas like Mahadevapura, Yelahanka, Kengeri, Bommanahalli, and Rajarajeshwari Nagar stand to benefit, reducing dependency on private tankers and borewells.
