Bengaluru experienced severe traffic gridlock on Tuesday evening, as commuters returned from the extended three-day weekend. The city’s streets were clogged, with slow-moving traffic compounded by multiple vehicle breakdowns.

A senior traffic police official explained that many residents had traveled to their hometowns for the long weekend, resulting in a post-holiday rush. Such congestion is typical every time people return after a break, the officer added.

In the High Grounds traffic police jurisdiction, delays were further exacerbated when an iron structure under the railway bridge near Cantonment Railway Station required urgent repairs. The BBMP team began working on the structure, leading to a bottleneck on Jayamahal Road and neighboring areas from 3.30 pm to 9 pm. Traffic police struggled to manage the situation, and commuters were warned of significant delays.

Vehicle breakdowns also caused slowdowns on major routes such as the International Airport Road, Hebbal, and Goraguntepalya. The Central Business District reported heavy traffic as well.

The traffic snarls led to a challenging evening for Bengaluru residents, with multiple areas experiencing severe congestion.
