Bengaluru FC staged a dramatic comeback to defeat Mohammedan SC 2-1 in the Indian Super League (ISL) 2024-25 at the Kishore Bharati Krirangan in Kolkata on Wednesday. Sunil Chhetri, coming off the bench, played a pivotal role by converting a penalty and seeing his header deflected into the net by Florent Ogier.
The match began with Mohammedan SC, who were still seeking their first home win of the season, playing aggressively. Early chances fell to Carlos Franca and Remsanga, with Franca’s effort being cleared off the line. The breakthrough came from a corner in the 16th minute, where Cesar Manzoki was left unmarked and scored with a powerful header from the far post.
Bengaluru FC responded with a tactical change, bringing on Chhetri and adjusting their play to push forward. Chhetri had an immediate impact, creating multiple chances. His free-kick in the 65th minute was saved by Mohammedan keeper Bhaskar Roy, but just minutes later, a fast break resulted in Chhetri being awarded a penalty after a foul on Pedro.
Chhetri confidently stepped up to convert, maintaining his record of scoring against all ISL teams. With Bengaluru now 2-1 ahead, the match ended in a hard-fought victory for the visitors, who continue to show resilience in the league.
