Bengaluru: An FIR was lodged at the Highgrounds police station on Wednesday night against BJP MLA Basan Gowda Patil Yatna, who represents the Vijayapur city constituency. The complaint alleges that Yatna insulted Rahul Gandhi, the Lok Sabha Leader of Opposition.

The FIR was filed by S. Manohar, general secretary of the Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC). In response to the complaint, the police have commenced proceedings and will issue a notice to Yatna to attend a hearing. Authorities plan to record a statement and decide on further action based on their findings.

The complaint claims that Yatna used derogatory language towards Rahul Gandhi and allegedly insulted religious communities in his statements. These remarks, reportedly broadcasted widely, are said to have the potential to incite communal unrest.

The investigation is ongoing, and updates will follow as the police continue their inquiry into the matter.
