After nearly two decades of evading authorities, a 40-year-old fugitive accused of committing five brutal murders in West Bengal and Vasai was finally arrested in Bengaluru on Thursday. The suspect, Raju Shukla, was taken into custody by the Crime Branch and later transported to Mumbai.
A Trail of Bloodshed
Authorities revealed that Shukla killed four of his family members in West Bengal in 2002 before fleeing. Six years later, he murdered a friend in Vasai and vanished, making it difficult for investigators to track him.
The 2008 Vasai case involved the murder of Rajkumar Sah, whose lifeless body was discovered in Naikpada, Vasai East. Shukla had disappeared without a trace, forcing law enforcement to launch a large-scale search.
Eluding the Police
For years, the suspect concealed his identity, frequently changing locations. Investigators followed phone records of his associates, which led them to Karnataka. Further surveillance pinpointed his hideout in Bengaluru, where he was working as a security guard, plumber, and mechanic.
Arrest and Confession
Once captured, Shukla confessed to his past crimes, including the cold-blooded murder of his stepmother and three step-siblings in Midnapore, West Bengal. His final crime in 2008 involved bludgeoning a colleague to death in Vasai.
Deputy Commissioner of Police Avinash Ambure confirmed the arrest, stating that Shukla will now face legal proceedings in Maharashtra.
