Bengaluru: The Government will give a complete boost to traditional inland fisheries, said Fisheries Minister S. Angara said on Thursday October 20.

Speaking to Ministers in the meeting with MLAs and Fisheries Associations at Vikasa Soudha here on Thursday to discuss inland fisheries issues and said that the Government would encourage fishermen who traditionally earn a living by fishing and inland fisheries.

Those engaged in inland fishing should be organised and grouped in their respective areas. Then the Government will facilitate the distribution of facilities. Also, steps will be taken to provide a market for fish products, he added.

If the families of the fishermen make ponds for fishing on their land, they will be allowed to construct pits under the Employment Guarantee Scheme. Steps will also be taken to provide them with free fish seedlings, the Minister said.
