Bengaluru: A 39-year-old man from Tamil Nadu lost his life after being struck by a speeding motorcycle on the Hosur Road elevated expressway late Saturday night. The victim, identified as Ramesh Jyothimani, hailed from Krishnagiri district and worked as a daily-wage labourer.

According to police reports, Ramesh had arrived in the city to visit a relative residing in Bommanahalli. Around 10:15 p.m., after alighting from a bus, he attempted to cross the busy road near the up-ramp of the elevated highway—moving from the HSR Layout service road towards Roopena Agrahara.

At the same moment, Rajiv, a motorcyclist from Kerala, was riding at high speed and reportedly failed to spot Ramesh in time. The bike hit Ramesh, and both individuals were flung to the ground. Passersby rushed them to St John’s Hospital, where doctors pronounced Ramesh dead on arrival. Rajiv, who sustained injuries, is currently under medical care.

Authorities have filed a case against Rajiv under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), citing sections 106 (negligent homicide) and 281 (reckless driving on public roads). Police noted that a footbridge is located just a short distance from the incident site. However, Ramesh opted to cross the roadway directly instead of using the safer pedestrian overpass. Rajiv had reportedly come to Bengaluru to attend a wedding.

The incident highlights the persistent danger faced by pedestrians and the need for stricter enforcement of road safety norms.
