Bengaluru: Food Safety and Drug Administration (FDA) officials inspected Hotel South Ruchi on Race Course Road on Wednesday and ordered its closure after finding poor maintenance and unhygienic conditions, officials said.
Insects found near food items
According to a video released by the department, the hotel kitchen was found to be maintained in an unhygienic manner, with insects reportedly found around food items.
The inspection raised concerns over the conditions in which food was being stored and prepared at the establishment.
Expired ingredients found in kitchen
Officials also found expired packets of mushrooms, spice powders and other food ingredients during the inspection.
Sources said some of the products had expired three to six months earlier and were still present in the kitchen. They were also suspected to have been used for cooking.
Officials order immediate closure
The inspection also reportedly revealed mislabelling on some food products.
Following the findings, FDA officials ordered the closure of Hotel South Ruchi. The action comes amid increased scrutiny of food establishments over hygiene, food storage and compliance with safety regulations.
Officials are expected to take further action based on the findings of the inspection.
