With Bengaluru gearing up for two major events—Aero India and the Global Investors Meet—hotel occupancy has hit peak levels. Accommodations from the city to Devanahalli and even as far as Anantapur in Andhra Pradesh are fully booked.
Seizing the high demand, hotels have not only raised their base tariffs but also imposed an additional 15% surcharge. The steep prices and room shortages have led many investors to consider commuting between Bengaluru and Chennai as a cost-effective alternative.
A Hoteliers’ Association member, preferring anonymity, revealed that a luxury hotel now charges ₹15,000 per night, with rates soaring by another 10-15%. Surprisingly, this surpasses the price of a flight ticket to Chennai. Acknowledging the situation, industry insiders admit it is opportunistic but unavoidable.
The price surge extends beyond Bengaluru, affecting areas like Chikkaballapur, Devanahalli, and even parts of Andhra Pradesh. Three-star hotels, in addition to five- and four-star establishments, have significantly raised their prices. Bengaluru Hotels and Restaurants Association Secretary Veerendra Kamat confirmed the overwhelming demand.
Meanwhile, eateries near Yelahanka Air Force Station and Kempegowda International Airport are capitalizing on the influx by launching special menus and pricing strategies. With large crowds gathering outside the air show venue, food trucks and pop-up stalls are being set up to cater to visitors.
