Bengaluru International Film Festival to begin from February 2

Bengaluru: The ninth edition of the annual film festival “Bengaluru International Film Festival” (Biffes) is all set to start from February 2. The festival will be inaugurated by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on February 2 in front of the Vidhana Soudha. Director, Department of Information and Public Relations, N R Vishu Kumar said that they will screen an audio-video presentation highlighting the history of the Kannada film industry and its growth. The 10-minute documentary will be screened using Vidhana Soudha as a canvas.Speaking to media persons here S V Rajendra Singh Babu, chairman, Karnataka Chalanachitra Academy, said: “At least 40 Kannada films such as Bekku, Dhvani, Rama Rama Re, Godhi Banna Sadharana Mykattu, among other critically acclaimed movies, will be screened at Mysuru and Bengaluru. More than 2,000 delegates have already requested for registrations at the film festival.”

Organised by the KCA and supported by the Karnataka Film Chamber of Commerce ( KFCC), the film festival will see representation of more than 30 films vying with each other for cash prizes under the Biffes film competition. Like every year, there are three competitive sections – Asian cinema, Kannada cinema and Indian cinema.

Under the Asian Cinema section about 14 movies, Indian Cinema about 13 movies and in Kannada Cinema, a total of 12 films have made it to the Biffes film competition.

Organisers said that the eighth edition that was held between January 27 and February 5, 2016 was a resounding success, with the screening of nearly 230 films from 45 countries on 15 screens in Bengaluru and Mysuru.
