Bengaluru: In a shocking breach of trust, an employee at a prominent jewellery store on CT Street allegedly absconded with over 3 kg of gold ornaments worth more than ₹2.8 crore. The accused has been identified as Rajendra Kumar, a native of Rajasthan, who had been working with Mehta Jewels for the past year.

According to a police complaint filed by Rakesh Kumar K, 49, the store owner, Rajendra was responsible for getting gold ornaments hallmarked and returning them post-certification. On April 3, Rakesh entrusted him with 2.7 kg of gold, and on April 4, an additional 400 grams for hallmarking at Mehta Lab Hall.

Rajendra was asked to collect the hallmarked ornaments—a total of 3.1 kg—from the lab on the evening of April 4. While he did pick them up, he never returned to the store. Multiple calls to his phone went unanswered, raising immediate suspicion.

Realizing he had been duped, Rakesh filed a complaint. The Halasurugate police have registered a case under BNS Section 306 (Theft by clerk or servant of property in possession of master) and launched a manhunt to trace the absconding employee.

Authorities are also examining CCTV footage and contacting transport hubs to track his possible escape route.
