A private company’s promise of a government job with a hefty salary of Rs 28 lakh has turned out to be a fraudulent scheme, leading to a cheating case. Based on a complaint filed by HK Raghavendra, a resident of Hospalaya, the Bandepalaya police station has registered a case against six individuals from Davangere.
The accused, identified as Raghavendra, Manjunath, Sunita Bai, Gayatri, Sachin, and Tilak, allegedly posed as influential connections with senior government officials. They claimed Manjunath worked as an Assistant Executive Engineer (AEE) in Davangere.
In February 2021, the complainant transferred Rs 2 lakh to Raghavendra’s bank account as an advance payment for the promised government job. Subsequently, large sums were handed over in cash to the accused and their associates, totaling Rs 28.40 lakh.
However, the promised job never materialized. When questioned, the accused allegedly threatened Raghavendra’s life. The police are investigating the matter.
This incident highlights the prevalence of job scams targeting unsuspecting individuals. Citizens are advised to exercise caution and verify authenticity before making financial transactions.
