Bengaluru: KAMS Urges Vigilance as Schools Reopen Amid Covid Concerns
Bengaluru: As the academic year begins in Karnataka, the Karnataka Associated Managements of Schools (KAMS) has issued a precautionary advisory to all private schools in the wake of recent Covid-19 variant alerts and viral infections.
This guidance comes after a Covid-related death was reported in Bengaluru on Saturday. While reassuring that there is no immediate cause for alarm, KAMS has stressed the need for responsible action to safeguard the well-being of students, educators, and families.
The advisory includes an updated Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) and emphasizes a “health-first” attendance policy. Children showing signs of illness—such as fever, cold, cough, rashes, or allergies—should stay at home, and parents are urged to consult doctors without delay. “A child’s health takes priority over attendance,” the circular reads.
Schools have also been advised to complete sanitisation protocols before reopening. Teachers are encouraged to promote hygiene practices, including proper handwashing, respiratory etiquette, and maintaining well-ventilated classrooms.
If a student falls ill during school hours, they must be isolated in a supervised area while waiting for parents to be informed and pick them up.
KAMS further urged schools to avoid panic and misinformation. Stakeholders are advised to depend solely on verified updates from public health authorities.
KAMS General Secretary Shashi Kumar clarified that these steps are being taken as a proactive measure in the absence of formal government directives, especially due to seasonal rains and children’s vulnerability to infections.
