Intense downpours coupled with thunderstorms battered several parts of Bengaluru late Saturday, leaving many neighborhoods swamped. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) recorded nearly 40 mm of precipitation within a 24-hour span, triggering chaos in vulnerable zones.

Sai Layout bore the brunt of the deluge. Residents there woke up to knee-deep water inside their homes. Furniture was drenched, gadgets ruined, and vehicles left half-submerged. People were forced to move to nearby safer locations as floodwaters entered living spaces.

Several trees and large branches collapsed under the pressure of the storm. Commuters faced delays due to obstructed roads, while power cuts disrupted services in a few areas. Locals accused civic agencies of turning a blind eye to repeated complaints about poor drainage and maintenance.

The IMD has also raised a yellow alert for several districts, including Uttara Kannada, Udupi, Dharwad, Belagavi, Haveri, Gadag, and Shivamogga, as the southwest monsoon continues to gain strength in Karnataka.

In its latest forecast, the weather department warned of sporadic rainfall with lightning and gusts of wind reaching 30–40 kmph over the next few hours. It also cautioned residents about brief power failures, minor road blockages, and the risk of trees falling in weak soil zones.

Authorities urge people in affected areas to remain indoors, shut doors and windows tightly, and postpone non-essential travel until conditions improve.
