In a horrifying incident in Bengaluru, a 39-year-old man, identified as Ravikumar, was arrested by the Madanayakanahalli police for allegedly raping a minor girl after her father failed to repay a loan. This shocking case has raised serious concerns about the exploitation of vulnerable families facing financial distress.
Background of the Case
Ravikumar had lent Rs 70,000 to the girl’s father, of which Rs 40,000 had been repaid in installments. He frequently visited the family’s home to collect the remaining Rs 30,000. Initially presenting himself as a debt collector, Ravikumar gradually gained the family’s trust and began spending more time at their home, particularly when the girl’s father was absent.
Manipulation and Abuse
Ravikumar manipulated the situation by asking the 17-year-old girl to serve him tea or coffee while he waited for her father. Over time, he began to act inappropriately, using the unpaid loan as leverage. He threatened the girl, warning her that if she informed her family about his advances, he would create more problems regarding the debt.
Fearing repercussions for her father, the girl endured his harassment in silence. The situation escalated when Ravikumar forcibly kissed her while she was alone at home, repeating this multiple times. He recorded photos and videos of these incidents, using them to blackmail her into silence. Under threat of sharing the material on social media, he raped the minor girl on several occasions.
Victim Breaks Silence
The victim initially kept quiet due to her concern for her father but eventually confided in her family about the harassment. Following this disclosure, her family lodged a complaint with the Madanayakanahalli police. The police acted swiftly, leading to Ravikumar’s arrest, and a case has been registered against him under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.
Ongoing Investigation
Authorities are continuing their investigation into the incident, which has sparked alarm about the exploitation of vulnerable families in financial distress. This case underscores the urgent need for greater awareness and protective measures for at-risk individuals, particularly minors, who may be subjected to such heinous acts.
This tragic incident serves as a stark reminder of the need for vigilant community support systems and legal measures to protect vulnerable children from exploitation.
