Bengaluru man demands ₹50 lakh from BBMP over ‘trauma-inducing’ pothole-riddled roads
In a bold move, a 43-year-old Bengaluru resident, Dhivya Kiran of Richmond Town, has slapped a legal notice on BBMP, seeking ₹50 lakh in damages for the physical pain and psychological distress he says stemmed from the city’s crumbling road infrastructure.
Kiran, a regular taxpayer, accuses the civic body of “gross negligence” in maintaining roads, pointing to deep potholes, fractured footpaths, and unmotorable stretches. According to the notice, his repeated commuting woes have resulted in severe neck and back injuries, medically linked to the city’s poor road conditions.
The document outlines that Kiran visited orthopedic doctors five times and rushed to St. Philomena’s Hospital on four emergency occasions, undergoing treatments including pain-relief injections. He reportedly suffered sleepless nights, anxiety, emotional breakdowns, and a sharp decline in his quality of life.
Claiming he’s now unable to ride autos or two-wheelers, and even cab rides have become painful, Kiran says his mobility is restricted, affecting both personal freedom and work commitments.
The notice demands compensation for medical bills (past and future), emotional trauma, physical suffering, loss of normalcy, and travel-related costs—along with ₹10,000 for legal fees. If ignored, Kiran has warned of civil suits, PILs, and complaints to the Lokayukta and Human Rights Commission.
This could spark a wider accountability debate on civic infrastructure failures and citizen rights.
