Nagesh Veeranna, a 33-year-old Bengaluru resident, tragically passed away this week, allegedly due to side effects from a clinical trial conducted by Syngene. His body was found at his brother’s home on January 21. Family members claim Nagesh had no prior health issues until joining the trial.
A complaint filed at Jalahalli Police Station led to the registration of an unnatural death case. Nagesh’s brother, Revana Siddappa, stated that his condition deteriorated following the trial. According to the complaint, Nagesh first visited Syngene on December 9 and returned for an extended session on December 12. Days later, on December 18, the company informed Siddappa that Nagesh had been admitted to the ICU with severe complications.
The family alleges that within 24 hours of receiving an injection and a tablet, Nagesh developed intense stomach pain and required hospitalization. He was discharged on December 26 but continued undergoing regular checkups with Syngene.
On January 21, after a regular evening at home, Siddappa found his brother unresponsive in the morning. Despite rushing him to the hospital under the company’s doctor’s guidance, Nagesh was declared dead on arrival.
Investigations into the circumstances of his death are ongoing, raising concerns about clinical trial safety and oversight.
