Bengaluru Man Dies After Tree Branch Falls on Him
After five days in intensive care, Akshay Shivaram, a 29-year-old HR executive from Srinivasa Nagar, succumbed to severe head injuries on Thursday afternoon. The young professional was critically injured last Sunday when a large tree branch fell on his head while riding his scooter on 16th Main Road near Brahma Chaitanya Temple.
Akshay, an MBA graduate from Bangalore University, was on his way home for lunch when the tragic incident took place. Bystanders immediately rushed him to a nearby private hospital. Given the extent of his skull and brain trauma, he was transferred to a multi-specialty facility for advanced treatment.
Sadly, despite medical efforts, Akshay could not recover. Notably, he wasn’t wearing a helmet at the time, a detail that further underscores the importance of road safety gear.
The incident has reignited public concern over the poor maintenance of Bengaluru’s aging trees, particularly ahead of the monsoon season. City residents point out that lack of regular pruning and neglect by civic authorities often result in branches or entire trees collapsing, posing serious threats to commuters and pedestrians.
Akshay’s death has become a tragic reminder of both urban infrastructure lapses and the urgent need for proactive safety measures—including responsible tree management and strict helmet compliance.
