A 72-year-old Bengaluru resident, diagnosed with gastric cancer, tragically took his own life on December 25, just 15 days after the diagnosis. His family reported that he was devastated upon learning that the Kidwai Memorial Institute of Oncology (KMIO) had denied him ₹5 lakh coverage under the Ayushman Bharat Senior Citizen scheme, which he had enrolled in. The hospital cited pending state government orders, offering a 50% discount instead. The Karnataka government later confirmed that the scheme had not yet been implemented.
