A 21-year-old man has been taken into custody by Chamarajpet police for allegedly assaulting another man during a drunken altercation, officials confirmed.
The incident occurred on July 11 when Tejas, 24, an autorickshaw driver, went to a bar near Rudrappa Garden in western Bengaluru with his friend Santhu. Later, other acquaintances, including the accused, Abhishek, who works at a private company and lives nearby, joined them.
According to investigators, a minor disagreement erupted after several rounds of alcohol. The quarrel soon escalated, prompting Abhishek to attack Tejas with a machete in a fit of rage.
Tejas sustained serious injuries to his left hand, leg, and parts of his neck. “He is currently under medical care but is out of danger,” a police official said.
Following the assault, Abhishek was arrested and remanded to judicial custody. Authorities have charged him under Section 109 (attempt to murder) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). Police also confirmed that another suspect involved in the brawl remains absconding, and efforts to trace him are ongoing.
The incident has raised concerns about rising violence linked to alcohol-fueled disputes in the city. Officials urged the public to exercise caution and report such incidents promptly to prevent further escalation.
Further investigation is underway to gather additional evidence and apprehend the remaining suspect.
