Bengaluru: Bengaluru police caught a man who had outstanding fines of ₹49,100 during a crackdown on traffic fine defaulters. The individual was arrested by Yelahanka limits traffic police and forced to pay the overdue traffic fine.

“Today we collected 49,100/-rs fine full amount from the owner of the KA50-S-3579 vehicle for traffic violations,” stated the Deputy Commissioner of Police (North) in a statement.

The Bengaluru police have previously apprehended offenders who have been evading paying arrears on their traffic tickets. Officers are strictly enforcing the violators’ payment of fines as part of their ongoing effort to apprehend these offenders throughout the city. Also, violators with outstanding balances greater than ₹50,000 receive multiple notices.

Traffic police in Bengaluru discovered a staggering fine of ₹3.2 lakh on a single two-wheeler that belonged to a Sudhamanagar resident in the city. The owner was warned by the police to pay the outstanding fines immediately or face consequences. They also advised him to clear the dues as soon as possible.

The owner said that because his scooter is only worth ₹30,000 on the used market, he is unable to pay the ₹3.2 lakh fine. The police, however, offered him the choice to pay the outstanding balance by installments and threatened to file a formal complaint if he didn’t.

A few weeks ago, 2,681 vehicles in the city had fines for traffic violations exceeding the ₹50,000 threshold, according to MN Anucheth, joint commissioner of police.

In Bengaluru, there are at least 2,681 vehicles with over ₹50,000 in unpaid fines related to moving violations. We have started a drive to get these offenders to pay their fines. Even after this, if they don’t pay, we file a chargesheet with the court, and the offender will receive a summons from the court. If the fine is not paid, these cases under the Motor Vehicles Act may result in a charge sheet, according to Anucheth.
