A 22-year-old man has been arrested in Avalahalli, on Bengaluru’s northeastern outskirts, for allegedly setting his house ablaze in the middle of the night. The shocking incident took place around 1:30 am on Tuesday when four family members, including a gram panchayat member, his wife, son, and daughter, were asleep inside. Fortunately, they managed to escape unharmed, though they suffered minor breathing difficulties due to the thick smoke.
According to police, the accused, Ranjith, son of the gram panchayat member, poured petrol along the walls of the house before igniting the fire. The family woke up to intense heat and quickly fled to safety. Investigators, suspecting a domestic dispute, took Ranjith into custody, and subsequent questioning confirmed his involvement.
Authorities revealed that Ranjith had been embroiled in ongoing conflicts with his father, primarily over financial matters. A week before the incident, his father had denied him money, leading to escalating tensions that allegedly drove him to commit the act. Police are now probing further to understand his exact motive and whether intoxication played a role.
