Bengaluru: A 23-year-old man, who was supposed to be produced before court, died custody on the morning of Thursday January 5.
The deceased has been identified as Vinod, a resident of Cotton Pete in the City. He was taken to the Cotton Pete police station on Wednesday after being charged in connection with the alleged theft of a Honda Dio bike from the City.
According to sources, he was found to be unconscious on Thursday morning at 3.45 am when the SHO went to check on him. He was pronounced dead after being brought to the Victoria Hospital. Vinod was about to appear in court due to a pending non-bailable warrant in the theft case.
It will be treated as a case of custodial death and the NHRC’s guidelines will be followed. The Crime Investigation Department will be tasked with handling the case.
