Good news may soon be arriving for passengers travelling between Bengaluru and Mangaluru, as Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw has said that the long-awaited Vande Bharat train on the route will be launched shortly.

The announcement has generated excitement among commuters, students, business travellers and families who frequently travel between coastal Karnataka and the state capital. The route is one of Karnataka’s busiest corridors, with heavy demand throughout the year.

Trials underway after technical hurdles cleared

According to the minister, technical challenges on the ghat section have now been addressed. Railway tracks between Hassan and Mangaluru have been electrified, and trial runs are currently underway.

Special safety systems, including Automated Emergency Braking (AEB), have reportedly been added for steep gradients in the Western Ghats section. This is expected to improve safety and operational readiness before commercial launch.

Major relief for passengers

Once introduced, the Vande Bharat train is expected to reduce travel time and offer passengers faster, cleaner and more comfortable travel with modern amenities.

For many from coastal Karnataka, the service is seen as a major step forward in connectivity, tourism growth and easier access to Bengaluru for education, healthcare and employment.

Karnataka rail network expanding

The minister also indicated plans for extending services towards Madgaon, signalling stronger rail connectivity between Karnataka and Goa in the near future.

With trials in progress, passengers across the region now await an official launch date.
