Starting January 13, Bengaluru Metro will begin operations at 4:15 AM every Monday, a shift from the usual 5:00 AM start time. This change, according to the Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL), aims to cater to passengers returning to the city after weekend trips. The revised schedule will provide easier access for early commuters, particularly those arriving at major transit points like the City Railway Station and Kempegowda Bus Stand, enhancing last-mile connectivity.
The new timings will only apply on Mondays, with no alterations to the weekday schedule. Metro services will continue as usual from Tuesday to Sunday, starting at 5:00 AM.
In other news, Bengaluru’s Namma Metro riders may soon face a significant fare hike. The fare fixation committee has proposed an increase of 40-45%, marking the first price revision in nearly eight years. This recommendation follows a comprehensive evaluation of various factors and public feedback gathered in October 2024. The BMRCL board is set to review and likely approve the fare increase on January 17. However, this proposal has sparked concerns among commuters, many of whom rely on the metro for their daily commute in the tech capital.
