Bengaluru Metro Rail Corporation Ltd (BMRCL) announced Wednesday that three metro cars for the third trainset of the upcoming Yellow Line were dispatched from Titagarh Rail Systems‘ facility in Uttarpara, West Bengal, on Tuesday. The remaining three coaches are scheduled for dispatch by May 2, with their arrival in Bengaluru expected between May 10 and 15.

The partial shipment was due to logistical bottlenecks, specifically the shortage of specialized transport trailers required to move the large metro coaches. A BMRCL spokesperson clarified, “Due to limited trailer availability, only three coaches were sent initially. The rest will follow once we secure additional trailers.”

Once all cars are received, the third trainset will undergo testing before facing inspection by the Commissioner of Metro Railway Safety (CMRS).

The 9.15-km Yellow Line stretches from RV Road to Bommasandra via Electronic City. It is set to feature driverless, Made-in-India trainsets, with the first units from Titagarh delivered in January 2025. Prior to that, a prototype from China was delivered in February 2024.

Despite civil works being largely complete, the Yellow Line has been hit by a series of setbacks — including trainset delays, geopolitical tensions, and manufacturing issues.

BMRCL managing director Maheshwara Rao has formally requested a CMRS inspection to pave the way for commercial operations, which are tentatively targeted for late May or early June. Initially, the Yellow Line will run three trainsets at 20–40 minute intervals, adjusting based on ridership.
