Bengaluru: Ramamurthynagar Police has arrested three persons for allegedly abducting and murdering a youth on charges of attempting to commit theft at a scrap shop and dumping his body in a drain.
The arrested have been identified as Sheikh Zabiullah (26), a resident of Pillanna Garden in K.G. Halli, Shahbaz alias Baban (28), a resident of Korang Jopadi and Prashanth (34), a native of Udupi.
Police said the accused had killed one Saifullah in February, dumped his body in a drain and fled. Saifullah, who lived with his grandfather in D. J. Village, had a horse-drawn cart and worked as a labourer. He would often leave home for 10 to 20 days for work. Saifullah had left home in February and had not returned for 40 days. The phone was switched off.
Alarmed, his brother, complainant Fayazullah, questioned the youth, who were working with Saifullah and others.
One of the accused, Shahbaz, was the owner of the scrap shop and Prashant was the security guard. Saifullah had come near a scrap shop on the night of February. The three accused questiomed him that why he came for scrap at this time and that did he steal anything? Saifullah was then confused and said that he had stolen the gold ornaments.
So the three accused abducted him, kept him in a place behind the scrap shop, tortured him regularly and asked him to show the place where the gold ornaments were kept. Saifullah, however, said he had not stolen anything the next day as he was mentally ill. Enraged by this, the accused assaulted him with deadly weapons and killed him. They then dumped the body in a drain at Kasturba Nagara Service Road and fled, police said.
