Bengaluru-Mysuru Highway safety woes spark urgent action
Superintendent of Police (SP) Srinivas Gowda has called on relevant authorities to address the rising number of accidents on the Bengaluru-Mysuru Highway. During a recent meeting, he emphasized the urgency of resolving flaws on the newly constructed highway, stating, “Toll collection must reflect road usability, yet numerous unresolved issues persist.”
A major concern highlighted was the unregulated entry and exit points along the highway. The SP urged immediate measures to curb unauthorized access. Additionally, problems with service roads were flagged as needing swift attention. Structural shortcomings, including the lack of underpasses at Bidadi and Channapatna railway crossings, were cited as critical hurdles for commuters. Gowda also mentioned challenges on the Bengaluru-Harohalli bypass and stressed the necessity of installing high-mast lights to improve nighttime visibility.
The SP identified reckless driving—such as erratic lane switching and driving under the influence—as leading causes of accidents. He vowed strict action against negligence by both motorists and officials. Gowda stressed the importance of rectifying departmental inefficiencies to enhance road safety.
For better safety, he recommended speed bumps only where essential, cautioning against poorly designed ones that could endanger drivers. He also reminded motorcyclists to wear helmets and urged car passengers to use seat belts. Parents were advised to ensure minors do not operate vehicles.
The SP reiterated his commitment to creating safer highways, calling for proactive measures and public cooperation.
