Bengaluru: In a big shocker for the residents of the rented houses, the state government decided against offering free electricity for them.

According to the guidelines issued for 200 units free electricity, if the two meters are registered in the name of one person, benefits will be made available only for one. This means, rented house inmates will not get the benefit even if they have a separate meter and connection as it is also registered in the name of the owner.

The state government’s decision led to massive criticism with people demanding changing the rules to ensure that those who stay in rented houses are poor compared to the owners.

Rukmini Prasad, a resident from Malleshwaram told Newskarnataka.com that the guidelines issued by the government on availing 200 units free electricity should be revised immediately. In every city more people stay in rented houses compared to the number of house owners. So, this benefit will not available for a big chunk of people if the guidelines are not revised.
