Bengaluru Police Arrest Bangladeshi National Living Illegally for 8 Years
In Bengaluru, police arrested a Bangladeshi national, Ramzan Shaikh, who had been living illegally in the city for the past eight years. Shaikh, 38, had worked in a garbage segregation unit alongside his second wife and forged a birth certificate to indicate he was born in West Bengal. Authorities also discovered that Shaikh possessed a fake Aadhaar card, voter ID, and an Indian driving license.
The case came to light after his first wife in Bangladesh filed a missing person’s report, claiming Shaikh left on a medical visa but never returned. Investigations revealed he had remarried in Bengaluru and settled in the Channasandra area. Shaikh was previously detained in 2023 but released for a medical procedure, during which he resumed living with his second wife.
Kadugodi police and Foreigners Regional Registration Office (FRRO) officials jointly conducted the operation, charging Shaikh under multiple sections for forgery and violation of the Foreigners’ Act.
