Bengaluru:The Bengaluru police have arrested seven individuals in connection with a high-value robbery that took place on September 19, targeting a college lecturer’s residence. The culprits, posing as officials of a government enforcement wing, reportedly looted Rs 1.52 crore in cash and jewellery from the home.

Details of the robbery

According to Bengaluru Police Commissioner Seemanth Kumar Singh, the criminals executed the robbery after gaining inside information from a former driver of the victim’s family. The driver had reportedly informed them that the lecturer had recently acquired a significant amount of cash from a land deal, which was being stored at the house.

During the incident, four men allegedly claimed to be government officials and conducted a mock “search” of the premises. They reportedly overpowered the family members present at the time and took away jewellery and cash worth over a crore. The meticulous planning and impersonation indicate that the crime was premeditated.

Investigation and arrests

The Bengaluru police launched a detailed investigation following the incident. The team traced the leads provided by the informant and identified the seven accused. Police stated that all the arrested individuals are being interrogated to uncover the full extent of their network and to recover the stolen valuables.

Commissioner Singh said, “The crime was based on insider information, which made the offenders confident in targeting the victim. We have acted swiftly to apprehend the suspects, and further investigation is underway to ensure recovery of the stolen property.”

Security concerns

The case has highlighted concerns about the safety of high-value individuals in the city, particularly when insider information is misused. Authorities are urging residents to exercise caution and verify identities of individuals claiming to be government officials before allowing them entry into their homes.

Moving forward

Police have assured that the investigation will continue rigorously, with an aim to recover the stolen money and jewellery and bring all accomplices to justice. Residents are also advised to strengthen security measures and report any suspicious activity immediately.
