Bengaluru police have arrested two youths and apprehended a minor boy from Rajasthan for a bold robbery in the heart of the city. The suspects, identified as 24-year-old Ajay Rao and 18-year-old Sunil Singh, both from Beawar district, were arrested along with a 16-year-old boy, who was presented before the Juvenile Justice Board.
The trio executed the robbery on Friday when they stormed into the house of silversmith Nagaraju Shinde in central Bengaluru. After tying up Shinde and his mother, they made off with Rs 2 lakh worth of valuables. The armed robbers, wielding a country-made silver pistol and a knife, took a 20-gram chain worth Rs 1.2 lakh, earrings valued at Rs 36,000, and Rs 33,000 in cash. The victims were locked in a washroom as the thieves fled the scene.
Acting quickly, the City Market police filed a case and reviewed CCTV footage from the area. The suspects were tracked down while attempting to leave Karnataka. Items recovered from them include an unloaded country-made pistol, the stolen jewelry, Rs 11,950 in cash, and three VIVO mobile phones.
According to a police official, initial investigations suggest that the suspects are not part of any gang, but inquiries are ongoing to determine if others were involved and to trace the origin of the firearm.
