Kannada actor Darshan Thoogudeepa, accused in the Renukaswamy murder case, has been issued a notice by the Bengaluru Police to deposit his licensed firearm at the nearest police station. Authorities have also initiated proceedings to cancel his arms license.
The RR Nagar police recommended the cancellation after Darshan was granted conditional bail by the Karnataka High Court. Police cited concerns that the actor might use the firearm to intimidate witnesses.
Darshan, along with Pavithra Gowda and 15 others, was arrested for the murder of Renukaswamy, whose body was found near a stormwater drain in Sumanahalli. While the actor was initially granted interim bail on medical grounds, the court extended it conditionally on December 13.
The police await Darshan’s compliance with the firearm surrender notice.
