Bengaluru – In a significant breakthrough, the Vidyaranyapur police have dismantled a major two-wheeler theft ring, leading to the arrest of two suspects, Raghavendra (25) and Saiteja (25). The arrests follow a thorough month-long investigation into a spate of vehicle thefts across the city.
The accused, both residents of Hunasamaranahalli, were apprehended after police linked them to a series of thefts involving high-end two-wheelers. During the operation, authorities recovered 25 stolen two-wheelers, valued at ₹26 lakh. The recovery also included six mobile phones, two laptops, and a colour printer, which were used to forge registration documents and insurance papers.
Raghavendra and Saiteja exploited their engineering expertise to modify engine and chassis numbers of the stolen vehicles, making them harder to trace. They created counterfeit documents and listed the stolen bikes for sale on various online platforms, effectively operating an elaborate vehicle theft and resale scheme.
The police investigation has connected the suspects to at least 12 separate theft cases in different parts of Bengaluru. The affected areas include Vidyaranyapura, Yelahanka Upanagar, Kodigehalli, Kottanur, Hennur, and K. R. Pura. This extensive network of thefts highlights the sophistication and reach of the crime ring.
The involvement of engineering skills in altering vehicle details demonstrates the increasing complexity of criminal activities in urban settings. The case underscores the need for advanced detection and prevention measures in combating vehicle theft.
In an unrelated operation, the Peenya police have also made significant progress in tackling vehicle theft. They arrested Venkatesh (39), who is believed to have targeted two-wheelers parked near the Jalahalli and Peenya metro stations. The police recovered 20 stolen vehicles, worth ₹5 lakh, from Venkatesh.
This arrest adds another layer to the ongoing efforts by Bengaluru’s law enforcement to address the rising issue of vehicle theft. Venkatesh’s operations highlight the problem’s extent and the need for enhanced vigilance, especially around key transit points.
The recent arrests shed light on the escalating issue of two-wheeler theft in Bengaluru. Both operations reveal a pressing need for increased awareness among residents and proactive measures from law enforcement. The use of sophisticated methods by the thieves emphasizes the importance of technological advancements in crime prevention.
Authorities are calling for heightened vigilance and cooperation from the public to help curb vehicle thefts. Enhanced security measures, community awareness programme, and the use of advanced tracking technologies are critical in addressing this growing problem.
The Vidyaranyapur and Peenya police stations’ successful operations serve as a reminder of the ongoing efforts to combat vehicle-related crimes and the effectiveness of coordinated police work. As investigations continue, further arrests and recoveries are anticipated, contributing to the broader fight against organized vehicle theft rings in Bengaluru.
