In a bid to ensure a peaceful and orderly celebration of the Gauri-Ganesha festival, Bengaluru City Police Commissioner B. Dayananda has issued a strong warning against the practice of forcefully collecting subscriptions. The warning comes as part of a broader initiative to maintain law and order during the festival.
During a press conference held on Friday, Commissioner Dayananda emphasized that stringent action will be taken against individuals or groups involved in coercive practices related to festival subscriptions. The move aims to prevent any form of extortion or illegal fundraising that might disrupt the festival’s harmonious atmosphere.
To facilitate smooth celebrations, the police commissioner has released a comprehensive 30-point guideline for all citizens. These guidelines address various elements of the festival, from idol installations to noise regulations.
Idol Installation and Public Spaces
- Prior Permission Required: Organisers must obtain permission from the relevant police station before installing Ganesha idols in public spaces.
- No Public Roads: Idol installations are prohibited on public roads or roads used for vehicular traffic.
- Temporary Structures: Permission is also necessary for erecting chapparas (temporary shelters) or samiyas (sacred structures) in public areas.
- CCTV Requirement: Installation of CCTV cameras at all festival venues is mandated to ensure security.
Noise and Safety Regulations
- Loudspeakers Usage: Loudspeakers are allowed only between 6 AM and 10 PM. Organizers must seek permission from local police to avoid disturbing residents, including senior citizens and school children.
- Prohibition on DJ Systems: DJ sound systems are banned during the festival to minimize noise pollution.
- Fire Safety: The use of explosives, firecrackers, and camphors is prohibited during processions, especially near sensitive areas.
- Fixed Routes and Timings: Procession routes must remain unchanged, and processions must end by 10 PM.
The police commissioner has highlighted that organizers are responsible for ensuring the safety and security of the events. They will be held accountable for any criminal incidents occurring during the festival, especially during the idol installation and immersion processions.
Commissioner Dayananda has urged all citizens to cooperate with the authorities and adhere to the guidelines set forth. This cooperative effort is essential to ensuring that the Gauri-Ganesha festival remains a peaceful and joyous occasion for everyone involved.
