In a special drive aimed at tightening security before New Year celebrations, Bengaluru police verified the addresses of 411 foreigners residing in the city, uncovering 29 who were overstaying their visas. Police Commissioner B. Dayananda confirmed that these individuals were presented before the Foreign Regional Registration Office (FRRO), with requests for their deportation.
The police also conducted surprise checks at 1,633 bars, restaurants, and 1,020 lodges across the city, focusing on the potential presence of narcotics. During the drive, they interrogated 1,233 rowdy sheeters and 380 individuals previously booked under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. In total, the police filed 29 cases under the Cigarettes and Other Tobacco Products Act (COTPA), three cases under the Foreigners Act, and additional cases under the NDPS and other special acts.
The surprise checks were part of the city’s effort to maintain law and order and curb illegal activities, including drug trafficking, ahead of the festive season. The police are taking a proactive approach to ensure safety during the New Year celebrations.
