In a concerning incident in Bengaluru, the Annapoorneshwari Nagar police have launched a case against a reality show celebrity, Karthik, also known as Huli Karthik, along with three others, for allegedly using an offensive term aimed at the Bhovi caste.

The FIR, filed on September 30, identifies Karthik as the main accused (A1) and includes an unnamed scriptwriter, director, and producer linked to the Anubandha Awards 2024. The derogatory remark was reportedly made during the awards ceremony, which aired on Colors Kannada on September 20 and 22.

Authorities have charged the accused under Section 3(1)(r)(s) of the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act, which penalizes intentional insults intended to demean members of Scheduled Castes or Scheduled Tribes.

The investigation is spearheaded by the Assistant Commissioner of Police (Kengeri), who confirmed that Karthik has been issued a notice to appear for questioning regarding the allegations.

This incident raises significant concerns about caste discrimination and the responsibilities of public figures in their speech and conduct.
