Bengaluru: In a major breakthrough, Kodigehalli police arrested a notorious interstate thief, Srinivas, who had evaded law enforcement for over 27 years. The accused, originally from Andhra Pradesh, was recently involved in a house burglary in Balaji Layout, Kodigehalli, making away with valuables worth ₹9.20 lakh.

Srinivas, a mechanical engineering graduate, once worked in the Telugu film industry as a technical crew member. However, his gambling addiction and desire for a lavish lifestyle drove him into a life of crime. Despite having siblings employed overseas in the US and Australia, he chose the path of theft and has been active since 1998, police said.

The April 16 burglary in Kodigehalli proved to be his undoing. Fingerprint evidence left at the scene matched those from a 2022 arrest in Jeevan Bima Nagar. CCTV footage further confirmed his identity, prompting a swift manhunt.

He was eventually tracked down on May 2 at a PG accommodation in Nagawara, where he had been staying for a few days. Investigations also linked him to another recent theft in the same area. Police recovered stolen goods from an associate’s house in Mysuru.

Srinivas has pending cases in Hyderabad, Bidar, and Eluru, yet has never faced conviction — a fact that has raised eyebrows within the police department. He is now in judicial custody, and authorities are continuing further investigations.
