Bengaluru: Bengaluru City Commissioner of Police Bhaskar Rao thanked the people on Saturday, December 21, for carrying out peaceful protests against the Citizenship (Amendment) Act, (CAA), 2019 in the city.
Addressing the media on, compol Rao said that the police are thankful to the people for not arming themselves even though they were defying the prohibitory orders by gathering in large numbers and carrying out protests.
Speaking about the prohibitory orders, Rao said that section 144 would either be lifted or extended depending on the situation. “A lot of people have been asking if we are going to extend section 144. Right now we have no plans of doing so but will study the situation in the evening. We need to take immediate decisions on certain things,” he said.
Elaborating on the security measures, the compol said that no permission will be granted for pro-CAA or anti-CAA events.
About the violent protests, he said that a total of 244 people have been detained by the police. “As many as 10 FIRs have been registered against protesters,” he added.
