Bengaluru: The Bengaluru Traffic Police has said that they would henceforth impose fines to motorists who take shelter with their two-wheelers in underpasses to avoid the rain because they consider it to be unsafe and something that could result in accidents. A fine of Rs. 500 will be imposed in the first instance, and Rs. 1,000 the second time onwards.
The police have urged motorists to seek cover in nearby stores when it rains because visibility on the road may be compromised and heavy vehicle traffic may increase the risk of accidents.
Speaking to mediapersons Dr. BR Ravikanthe Gowda, Joint Commissioner of Police (Traffic) said Dr. BR Ravikanthe Gowda, Joint Commissioner of Police (Traffic), spoke to media and stated that it has been raining in the city for the past 26 days and that they have seen several instances of riders of two-wheelers waiting in underpasses to avoid getting wet. In the city, they have located 46 similar underpasses.
The civic agencies should make sure that whenever it rains, water is not collected in low-lying areas but is instead drained out, he said.
