In a significant breakthrough, Bengaluru police have arrested six individuals involved in a series of ATM thefts. The case began after the Mahalakshmi Layout police were alerted on January 25 about a street altercation between two men in the Kempegowda Layout, triggered by a financial dispute. Upon investigating, police discovered that the men were part of a gang involved in stealing money from ATMs.

The arrested suspects have been identified as Shivu K (27), Sameer S (26), Girish S (26), Manohar K (29), Jaggesh (28), and Jaswanth V R (27). Police recovered Rs 43.76 lakh in cash and a luxury car purchased with the proceeds of their crime. The gang members were employed as cash-filling agents and exploited their access privileges to steal Rs 90 lakh from cash boxes and ATMs.

The altercation led police to an SUV parked nearby, where they found the gang members with over Rs 43 lakh in cash. Following interrogation, police discovered that the suspects worked for an agency responsible for filling and repairing ATMs. While servicing the machines, they would load them with less cash and use their access to steal money and retrieve ATM passwords.

Further investigation revealed that Jaswanth had Rs 8 lakh at home, and Manohar had bought a car using the stolen funds, which he gifted to his wife. Girish also purchased a car with the loot. The police have seized both the cash and vehicles.
