In a rare weather event, Bengaluru has recorded its highest-ever temperature for October, reaching 32.8 degrees Celsius on Wednesday. This surpasses the previous record of 32.4°C set on October 4, 2002, according to the Meteorological Department.

Typically, October temperatures in Bengaluru hover around 28°C, making this year’s reading nearly 4°C above the norm. The Meteorological Department confirmed that this is the first time such a high temperature has been recorded in October since they began keeping records.

Several areas within the city experienced similar high temperatures, with Bengaluru International Airport reporting 32°C, HAL at 32.2°C, and GKVK at 31.2°C. Even the previous day, the temperature at the international airport reached 32°C.

Recent years have seen notably lower maximum temperatures in October. The highest October temperatures for the past several years are as follows:

  • 2020: 31.3°C
  • 2019: 30.7°C
  • 2018: 31.5°C
  • 2017: 31.3°C
  • 2016: 32°C
  • 2015: 32.1°C
  • 2014: 31.7°C
  • 2013: 30.8°C
  • 2012: 32.3°C
  • 2011: 31°C

This year’s spike in temperature highlights an unusual weather pattern for Bengaluru, which typically enjoys cooler conditions during this period. The Meteorological Department’s records indicate that while temperature fluctuations have occurred in the past, this recent surge marks a significant change in the city’s weather history.

Experts are closely monitoring this trend, as it may indicate broader climate changes affecting the region.
