A Bengaluru resident recently took to social media to share his troubling experience at the Kasturi Nagar Regional Transport Office (RTO), where he claims he was asked for a bribe of ₹1,000 immediately after passing his driving test.

According to the individual, despite feeling confident in his driving skills, he was informed that the payment was “needed for the license process” shortly after completing the test. He noted that other candidates waiting in line also appeared to pay the same amount, indicating a troubling pattern at the RTO.

In an attempt to avoid drawing attention, he initially told the bribe requester that he had no cash. However, he was then offered the option to transfer the money via PhonePe. Reluctantly, he complied, and after sending the payment, he was asked for his name to proceed with the licensing process.

Reflecting on the incident in his Reddit post, the resident expressed regret for not standing up against the demand, stating, “I wish I had stood up for this more. At that time, I was just thinking about my license.”

This incident raises concerns about corruption in public services and the pressures faced by individuals navigating bureaucratic processes.
