Bengaluru resident invites Kunal Kamra to perform under stalled Ejipura flyover
Amid the uproar over comedian Kunal Kamra’s remarks about Maharashtra Deputy CM Eknath Shinde, a Bengaluru resident has jokingly suggested he stage his next show under the Ejipura flyover—a dig at the flyover’s never-ending delays.
The comment follows violent protests by Shiv Sena workers at Mumbai’s Habitat Studio, which was vandalized and forced to shut down after Kamra called Shinde a “gaddar” (traitor). The venue, distancing itself from the comedian’s content, stated that repeated attacks made it feel like a “proxy for the performer.”
Kamra, undeterred, has defended his right to free speech, sarcastically proposing that he perform at Elphinstone Bridge or another Mumbai structure “in need of demolition.” The Bengaluru resident’s Ejipura suggestion reflects similar frustration—hoping the controversy might finally speed up the long-stalled project.
The 2.5-km Ejipura flyover began construction in 2017, but work halted in 2019 after the contractor went bankrupt. Despite multiple deadlines, including a March 2024 promise, the project remains unfinished. Originally budgeted at ₹204 crore, it has since turned into a symbol of inefficiency.
The episode has reignited debates on censorship, artistic freedom, and urban governance failures in India.
